Getting into it

So here's a few pieces from the first round of previz art I've done for the movie. It's is a drama/thriller, with some action, somewhat akin to Panic Room, but nothing the same story-wise. These were done to get a feel for a few actors who might play the lead role. Fun fun fun.

Jumping right in

I was thinking about having some sort of "beginning" to this blog, but it will come and go so quickly and who really cares, right? So I'm just jumping right into things.

The bulk of work that I have done over the last nine years or so is advertising work. I still do some but lately I have really started to branch out, which is something I am very happy about. Towards the end of last year I did my first movie poster, for a documentary named "Rape of the Soul". Yes, that's a horrible sounding name! It's a documentary about imbedded images in art, specifically targeting religeous art. I think the title was meant to serve as an attention grabber. You? :-) Anyway, despite the topic I was really excited to get the opportunity and gave it my all. Here it is:

You can see a larger version of the poster, along with a pictorial showing the "making of" process, on my website. Here's a link:

  • I have also been drawing a weekly comic strip for Sports Illustrated last year and this year. It's called "Stik: Life and Times on the PGA Tour", which means you guessed it: it's a golf thing. I was never interested in golf as a kid, but the older I get the more and more I like it. What'r'ya gonna do? The strip can be a lot of fun. Don't think you can just rush out, buy an issue of Sports Illustrated, and see the strip. I couldn't possibly be that easy, right? Pretty much the only way to see it is to have a subscription to Sports Illustrated and then ask to have Golf Plus added to it (for free). Even then they forget to add it sometimes. Here are a couple of quick samples from it that I put together:

So currently, besides the golf strip for Sports Illustrated (which is done through Marvel Comics), I'm working on a 3D animation project for the production studio I now work for (Just Imagine It Productions) and I'm serving as a one man previsualization (previz) crew for a motion picture. I'll be sharing work from both so I'm going to keep names and specifics to a minimum for awhile. I'll share some of that work next post. Happy drawing.

    Here we go...

Howdy! Everyone seems to be doing this blog thing so I figure I better jump onboard instead of getting left behind. :-)

Simply put, I draw stuff for a living. A little of this, a little of that, and it'll all show up right here. Except for the stuff I don't like, hahaha. I keep that stuff to myself and use it to make fires in the wintertime. But I'll share the rest. Hopefully it will be interesting. One way to find out, I guess...
